Edinburgh Business School
Edinburgh Business School (EBS) is Heriot-Watt University's Graduate School of Business, which is the degree-awarding body. The School, launched in 1995, marked a milestone in Heriot-Watt University's provision of postgraduate management education and executive development. EBS offers a portfolio of business education programmes delivered on a variety of learning platforms. The School also specialises in the design and delivery of tailored executive development programmes.

Professor Keith Lumsden is the Director of Edinburgh Business School. In addition to his extensive teaching and consultancy for many international companies, Professor Lumsden was for 13 years a member of faculty of the Graduate School of Business, Stanford University, USA. In 1994, he was awarded the Economics America Henry H. Villard Award from the US Council for Economics Education in recognition of his outstanding contribution to economics education through research. This research laid the foundation for the development of many of the educational techniques incorporated in the MBA texts. EBS are accredited by Royal Charter.

Key Developments

1985: The Heriot-Watt University MBA is introduced, initially through full-time and part-time programmes taught on the University campus in Edinburgh. The programmes are successful and prove popular with participants. However many well-qualified individuals are unable to participate because their professional or personal commitments make these methods of MBA study impossible.

1990: Growing demand for a more flexible approach to MBA study leads to the launch of the Heriot-Watt University Distance Learning MBA programme. The product of 15 years' design and development, this uniquely flexible programme enables individuals to study the degree anywhere in the world at a pace and in locations which suit them.
